Local countryside
The hotel is set amid beautiful scenery, surrounded by miles of coastline and close to Dartmoor National Park. The hotel itself is surrounded by meadow and mixed woodland. It is a haven for wildlife with more than 18 bird species recorded, 8 breeds of butterflies, 50 species of flowers and plants and 8 native species of trees.

For those interested in the ancient world, the Avon, Glazebrook and Erme valleys close by have the highest concentration of stone rows, hut circles and kistvaens (burial chambers) on Dartmoor.
Sights and attractions
Our country hotel is in reach of a wide range of attractions including National Trust properties and gardens, with Cornwall’s famous Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan within an hour’s drive. Visit Devon provides full details of local Devon attractions.
The city of Plymouth is within easy reach with its wealth of maritime history including the Barbican and the Mayflower Steps. The magnificent National Marine Aquarium is well worth a visit.
Sports and activities
Cycling
We are convenient for both moorland and coastal routes and can advise on many other routes suitable for families or serious off-roading. We are on the Exeter to Plymouth Cycle Route and near the Plym Trail. National Cycle route 13 passes the end of the hotel drive and the Granite Way is just 45 minutes away.
We can also arrange cycle hire: a two day package, including dinner, bed, breakfast and bike hire, starts at £79 per person. We offer secure storage, jet wash, basic repair facilities, maps, routes and packed lunches.
Walking and hiking
Glazebrook House is the ideal base for all levels of walking whether it is a short 20 minutes ramble along Glaze Brook or a full day’s hike across Dartmoor. Dave and Caroline have taken many walks in the area and are happy to offer routes and advice, including which pub is good for lunch! We have a room for drying your gear, maps and routes to borrow, and Dave will even make you a packed lunch.
Golf
There are at least 12 quality golf courses within an 18 mile radius of Glazebrook House Hotel. The nearest is Wrangaton Golf Club, 1.5 miles away.
Horse riding
A number of stables are available locally, offering escorted hacks in Dartmoor National Park.
Fishing
Available on the River Dart or Avon, as well as sea fishing and coarse fishing on the Devon coast.
Leisure centres
The Tone Leisure Centre in nearby Ivybridge has an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, squash courts, dance studio and an extensive gym. The South Devon Tennis Centre has four magnificent indoor courts and four floodlit outdoor courts.

War Horse
Dartmoor provides a dramatic backdrop for the Hollywood blockbuster War Horse. Steven Spielberg spent many weeks at various locations within Dartmoor National Park, most within 25 miles of Glazebrook.
